Wanted: Dead

Reviews

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty took the Nioh formula and expanded upon it, cutting out the unnecessary parts. It’s a game that is graphically impressive, fun, challenging, and feels complete.

GAMEPLAY When combat works, it feels intensely satisfying

There’s an action game underneath all of Wanted: Dead’s problems that is not half bad, especially if you liked games like No More Heroes, Devil’s Third, and Wet. It’s ridiculous in its context and action.

GAMEPLAY Samurai sword melee combat feels good

GAMEPLAY Androids are a chore to fight

Despite its clear and comprehensive flaws, Wanted: Dead is still weirdly likeable, and will undoubtedly find a similarly strange and unique fanbase to worship at its feet.

GAMEPLAY Incredible combat

A genuinely gleeful throw back to a time when gaming was jsut starting to bring the best of out the fifth and sixth generation console era. Wanted: Dead draws on eighties and nineties influences and dives head first into a riotous hack...

Wanted: Dead isn’t as bad as the worst games to come out recently but sloppy game design and story-telling has let down what could have been a decent game to play.

GAMEPLAY Satisfying swordplay, with a ridiculous story that walks the path of so many PS2-era games before it

GAMEPLAY Punishing enemy hordes, infrequent checkpoints, lacklustre gunplay

The visuals, while reminiscent of yesteryears' games, are good-not-great. It enhances the action, fills out the levels, and builds a distinct world. The characters look well thought-out.

Wanted: Dead is too janky to happily exist in mainstream gaming in 2023. But it'll definitely strike a chord with a niche audience—one I'm sadly not a part of. Soleil had a vision, and it can be proud that it damn well achieved it. It won't be for ev
